Museum Accreditation Scheme
The Museum Accreditation Scheme plays a vital role in ensuring a minimum standard of service delivery and public accountability across UK museums.
Administered by the Museums, Libraries and Archives Council (MLA) and the lead bodies in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, the Scheme has accredited more than 1800 museums and heritage attractions across the UK.
The Museum Accreditation Scheme addresses four key elements of service delivery:
- Governance and museum management;
- User services;
- Visitor facilities;
- Collections Management.
The Collections Management part of the Scheme requires museums to demonstrate that they have policies in place to address the care, documentation and security of their collections.
The Collections Trust is actively working with the Museums, Libraries and Archives Council (MLA) to address the future development of the Scheme. Services delivered by us, through Collections Link, to support museums going through the Accreditation process include:
