Introduction to Copyright
Overview
This half-day course assumes you have no previous knowledge of copyright. It provides a short introduction to the principles of copyright within the context of caring for, managing, using and interpreting collections.
The course begins with practical exercises to clearly establish what copyright is and to set it in the context of wider Intellectual Property Rights. The best practice principles established by the Collections Trust over a number of years are shared, and delegates are encouraged to discuss real examples arising from their work. Participants will develop their awareness of what can go wrong in the field of copyright, with an emphasis on practical strategies for reducing risk.
By the end of the session participants will have an understanding of their roles and responsibilities towards copyright, and how they can move towards best practice in their daily work.
The course is fully supported by Collections Trust copyright resources.
Participants will also receive packs of copyright materials.
