Documentation Planning
Overview
This is a practical course giving participants the opportunity to begin work on a documentation plan for their own organisation, with guidance from the trainer. It is an intermediate level course for participants with a basic documentation knowledge. Ideally, you will have attended a Collections Trust Documentation for Accreditation training day.
Participants examine practical strategies for reducing backlogs and discuss a range of successful project management techniques. Time is given to creating and reviewing participants' own plans.
Topics covered include SPECTRUM, the Museum Accreditation Scheme, identifying museum backlogs and discussion of participants' own documentation plans.
Objectives
By the end of the course participants will have:
- Considered the importance of good documentation practice;
- Understood the principles and use of SPECTRUM;
- Defined a museum backlog;
- Discussed backlog case studies;
- Started work on a documentation plan for their own organisation.
Participants
This course is suitable for both museum professionals and volunteers who are:
- Addressing museum backlogs;
- Writing a documentation plan for their Museum Accreditation Scheme application;
- Reviewing their existing documentation plans.
Training Methods
This course uses a mix of presentations, case studies, a short training video, informal discussion and one to one consultancy.
Preparation
The course is designed for both museum professionals and volunteers who have attended a Collections Trust Documentation for Accreditation training day.
Participants who have attended this course should bring with them the Accreditation checklist they completed on the day. If you don't have a checklist, please contact the Collections Trust so that we can send you a copy to prepare before your course.
